Habitat and Species Ecology Services - St Edwards Hospital Bats

St Edwards Hospital Bats Survey

TEP was commissioned by Redrow Homes (Midlands) Limited to carry out baseline ecological surveys of land at St Edwards hospital in Cheddleton, near Leek. The site contained a number of old Victorian buildings and numerous trees which specifically required surveying for bats.

A considerable amount of bat activity was discovered during survey including roosting pipistrelle and brown long-eared bats. A mitigation licence was therefore obtained from DEFRA in order for TEP bat ecologists to translocate bats to other parts of the site and monitor their success. TEP bat ecologists also provided management objectives for the site as a whole in order to optimise bat foraging area and flyways.
