Two key pieces of legislation were introduced into the UK in 2004. The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act introduced the need to carry out SAs for Local Development Frameworks (LDFs). LDFs also fall under the definitions of the SEA Directive (and subsequent UK regulations) which require the assessment of all spatial plans and programmes that are likely to give rise to significant environmental effects.
TEP has a thorough understanding of SA and SEA and has developed experience through a range of projects for different authorities across the UK. This has included assistance in developing sustainability objectives and indicators, identifying baseline data, highlighting sustainability issues, and assessing the effects of plan options upon environmental/sustainability objectives.
