TEP carried out a feasibility study for the creation of a community forest around Leicester. The study assessed the level of need for a community forest, and identified local and sub-regional drivers for the future development of the existing “Stepping Stones” countryside management project.
A landscape character assessment was carried out within the study area together with a review of relevant policies and strategies, an analysis of social, economic and environmental indicators and extensive stakeholder consultation.
This study was a regional exemplar project for the Countryside Agency’s ‘Countryside In and Around Towns’ programme.
TEP is now preparing an Action Plan.
Client: Leicestershire County Council and Countryside Agency.
