St Nicholas Church in Newchurch, Rossendale, have been awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to undertake improvement and maintenance works to the church yard which will be led by Valley Heritage, community groups and volunteers. Works will include repairing the dry stone walls and outbuildings and woodland management. TEP completed an ecological walkover of the site in March 2019 and have been providing ecology and arboriculture support including enhancement opportunities for local wildlife. The presence of healthy English elm trees is worth a mention as these appear to be free of the Dutch Elm Disease which is currently sweeping through the UK. One of our bat licensed consultants will also lead two community bat walks in July and August 2019 and we are pleased to provide one of these walks as part of our CSR opportunities. We will also welcome assistance on these walks by Newchurch Heritage Hound! Let’s hope for good weather and plenty of bat activity!
