Wigan Gateways

TEP was appointed by Wigan Council to produce designs for two key gateways on the A49 into Wigan.

The first scheme was the Marus Bridge roundabout where TEP prepared 3 designs for public consultation.  TEP involved local schools and the artwork produced by the children was incorporated into the final design. Following successful implementation.

At the junction of the A49 and  M6 TEP conducted public consultation on three designs, which were as a result of an artist’s competition and work by two High Schools. The winning piece was 'The Spirit of Wigan' by local artist Clare Bigger which uses a stainless steel archway with 3 figures depicting the spirit of Wigan. The landform has been raised to provide a platform for the sculpture, which is illuminated at night to give a stunning effect. The project received the Wigan ‘Urban Design’ Award
